We extend this belief to our team, fostering a supportive culture that values balance, respect, and well-being.

Here’s what you need to know about this role:

At Tops’l Farm, we believe that work should be joyful, rewarding, and deeply meaningful.

As our business continues to grow with a projected busy 2026 season, we’re seeking an enthusiastic, highly accountable, and adaptable Sous Chef to be a foundational part of our kitchen team. This role is perfect for a professional who is motivated by culinary creativity and a positive, collaborative work environment.

You will work closely with the Head Chef to produce and execute all culinary offerings for our diverse events—from high-end weddings and focused corporate/wellness retreats to intimate public dinners. You'll be instrumental in delivering the farm-to-table experience that defines our brand, ensuring the kitchen operates with clear expectations and a commitment to respect and efficiency.

SKILLS, GROWTH, AND ACCOUNTABILITY

We’re looking for a professional who demonstrates the Adaptability and Team-Oriented Mindset essential for a dynamic event setting.

Core Responsibilities & Traits:

  • Reliability & Leadership: Work alongside the Head Chef to manage prep and flawlessly execute events varying in size and flavor. You must possess the ability to run events solo, manage a small crew, and confidently step into the Head Chef’s role when necessary.

  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Critical thinking and problem-solving are paramount. We foster a culture where team players think through solutions in tandem with asking for help. The ability to assess inventory and think on the fly to create menus for retreat guests based on available, farm-fresh ingredients is a must.

  • Culinary Expertise & Growth: At least years of relevant restaurant and/or catering experience, strong product knowledge, and a command of various cooking methods. Interest in Growth and Improvement is key: experience/interest in butchering, charcuterie, preserving, and pickling is a major plus, as we invest in skills development.

  • Operational Excellence: Assist the chef in maintaining and enforcing strict kitchen standards, protocols, and food safety. This includes upholding our low food waste mentality—a deep respect for ingredients is essential.

  • Team & Guest Focus: Maintain strong verbal communication with the team and FOH staff. Deliver excellent service with a positive, respectful attitude while among guests, upholding our Commitment to Guest Experience.

  • Work Ethic & Efficiency: Assist with dishwashing, clean up, and receiving orders—we all wear multiple hats. Help develop strategies for better workplace efficiency—your ideas for improvement are valued and sought out as we grow.

Required Foundational Skills:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in knife skills, recipe adherence, and intuitive cooking.

  • Knowledge and experience in grilling and outdoor cooking is a serious plus.
